A baby-soft palette of pastel hues has been splashed across the creations of some of the industry's top designers this week during New York City Fashion Week. Peter Som, Richard Chai, Creatures of the Wind, and See by Chloe all debuted candy-coated pastels in their collections, mixing in delicate floral patterns and sheer tops, boxy jackets and crisp collars. No matter where you look for the upcoming spring season, you can be sure that it won't be difficult to find something in a clutch of feminine, nursery-inspired hues.

As we at Peppermint continue to follow the fashion buzz that is currently underway in New York City, we continue to see lots of minimalist blocking: boxy jackets, color block pieces in a pallete of natural hues, cutout dresses, and stark whites are appearing in numerous designer's collections. However, saturated hues have not gone unnoticed, either, with solid jackets and pants in shocking hues accenting a boldly printed top; colorful minimalism is brightening up the otherwise neutral-toned runways. It was Tadashi Shoji's collection that stood out among the rest today, a breath of fresh air among the architectured, sculptural runways that are gracing New York City. His collection was said to be inspired by the designer's worldly travles, ranging from the West Coast to the Gobi Desert to China, which can be seen in the intricate detailing on each of the pieces. The colors range from striking royal blues to burnt ambers, and the variety of patterns shows inspiration from various exotic lands. Here are a few of our favorite pieces.

Fashion Week has Begun!

It's official....fashion week is in full swing in New York city this week and next week, and soon to be underway in London, Milan, and Paris in the following weeks. As with the rest of the fashion world, we here at Peppermint are itching to see what some of the most well-known names in the fashion industry will turn out for the coming year. Although only a handful of designers have presented their Spring 2013 collections, a definite trend is already showing through: sculpted shapes and straight lines are abound for this coming season. Minimalism is the name of the game, as many designers are sticking to the basics, opting for a wide palette of solid colors arranged in rigid lines and shapes, with only a few pieces showcasing bold prints, sheer fabrics, or embellished details. Although feminine fits, patterns, and palettes are few and far between, a few designers such as Zac Posen, Juan Carlos Obando, Tanya Taylor, and Erin Fetherson are opting for a ladylike aesthetic that shines through with a pearly glow. Our favorite collection thus far has to be that of Mr. Zac Posen, whose Z Spoke line sparkles with forties-inspired feminine charm, showcasing satin dresses in a host of jewel tones, bold floral prints of navy or black and white, ruching, lace overlays, fitted jackets, and fringed handbags.
