Retro Roll..........The Forties

As the month of September winds down, so does the hustle and bustle of the various fashion weeks held in New York, London, Milan, and Paris. Throughout the past few weeks, it has been nearly impossible to miss the retro-inspired collections that so many designers have turned out; the fashions of the forties, fifties, and sixties are clearly back. But did they ever go out? Seeing the cuts and colors of these iconic eras walking modern runways just goes to show the timelessness of these exquisite fashions.

We're channeling the glamour and dazzle of the forites today by showcasing the works of Jason Wu, Behnaz Sarafpour, and Zac Posen. These three designers took high-waisted wide-leg pants, elegantly embellished sweaters, sweetheart necklines, collared blouses, and silks and satins to turn out creations that evoke images of Ingrid Bergman, old radios, and 1940 Chevys in onlooker's heads. Take a look at some of our favorite looks.

Kate Spade New York

Today we are featuring the likes of Ms. Kate Spade, whose iconic handbags have been a favorite for decades. Her clothing collection has quickly become a fan favorite as well, with wearable pieces suitable for the everyday girl or the glamazon alike.

It's the attack of the poodle skirts for her Spring 2013 collection, with rockabilly-inspired a-line skirts, mini cardigans, and cat-eye printed handbags galore. There is a hint of 60s resort wear tossed in the mix, too, with floppy brimmed hats, hortizontal stripes in a clutch of tropical colors, and clam-digger cuts to help offset the candy-coated fifties dreamland the rest of the collection exudes. Here are some of our favorite looks from Kate Spade New York's malt-shop paradise.

Marchesa

Fashion week is heating up and some of the most-anticipated designers of the season have already rolled out their stunning collections. Marc Jacobs, Derek Lam, Zac Posen, Rodarte, Max Azria, Alexander Wang, and so many more have graced the runways of New York City in the past weeks, showing off their latest works to eager, fashion-hungry eyes.

One collection that caught our eye this week came from Emma's favorite design label, Marchesa. Each season the design duo of Georgina Chapman and Karen Craig debut jaw-dropping pieces; hand painted gowns and intricate beading are some of their specialties. Thier erethral, exsquisite, and artistic take on gowns has proven them to be some of the most talented designers in the game, focusing on soft shapes and lots of draping. Their Spring 2013 collection is no different: inspired by the colors, fabrics, and traditional clothing of India, the pieces shown in this collection stun as each and every one of thier other collections has done thus far. Here are some of our favorite looks.

Hello, Baby!

A baby-soft palette of pastel hues has been splashed across the creations of some of the industry's top designers this week during New York City Fashion Week. Peter Som, Richard Chai, Creatures of the Wind, and See by Chloe all debuted candy-coated pastels in their collections, mixing in delicate floral patterns and sheer tops, boxy jackets and crisp collars. No matter where you look for the upcoming spring season, you can be sure that it won't be difficult to find something in a clutch of feminine, nursery-inspired hues.

Tadashi Shoji

As we at Peppermint continue to follow the fashion buzz that is currently underway in New York City, we continue to see lots of minimalist blocking: boxy jackets, color block pieces in a pallete of natural hues, cutout dresses, and stark whites are appearing in numerous designer's collections. However, saturated hues have not gone unnoticed, either, with solid jackets and pants in shocking hues accenting a boldly printed top; colorful minimalism is brightening up the otherwise neutral-toned runways. It was Tadashi Shoji's collection that stood out among the rest today, a breath of fresh air among the architectured, sculptural runways that are gracing New York City. His collection was said to be inspired by the designer's worldly travles, ranging from the West Coast to the Gobi Desert to China, which can be seen in the intricate detailing on each of the pieces. The colors range from striking royal blues to burnt ambers, and the variety of patterns shows inspiration from various exotic lands. Here are a few of our favorite pieces.

Sketching a new collection slowly but surely

Fashion Week has Begun!

It's official....fashion week is in full swing in New York city this week and next week, and soon to be underway in London, Milan, and Paris in the following weeks. As with the rest of the fashion world, we here at Peppermint are itching to see what some of the most well-known names in the fashion industry will turn out for the coming year. Although only a handful of designers have presented their Spring 2013 collections, a definite trend is already showing through: sculpted shapes and straight lines are abound for this coming season. Minimalism is the name of the game, as many designers are sticking to the basics, opting for a wide palette of solid colors arranged in rigid lines and shapes, with only a few pieces showcasing bold prints, sheer fabrics, or embellished details. Although feminine fits, patterns, and palettes are few and far between, a few designers such as Zac Posen, Juan Carlos Obando, Tanya Taylor, and Erin Fetherson are opting for a ladylike aesthetic that shines through with a pearly glow. Our favorite collection thus far has to be that of Mr. Zac Posen, whose Z Spoke line sparkles with forties-inspired feminine charm, showcasing satin dresses in a host of jewel tones, bold floral prints of navy or black and white, ruching, lace overlays, fitted jackets, and fringed handbags. Here are a few of our favorite looks from his collection.
